Project Description

Ohio University’s Social Enterprise Ecosystem (SEE) program, in collaboration with regional community Foundations, fills a three-fold gap in available support for social enterprises (for-profits and non-profits that are mission-driven and revenue-producing): (a) provision of customized professional venture development services specific to the social enterprise sector (which comprises over 5% of the national GDP and is particularly key in underserved areas); (b) training in use of newly-customized tools for social impact measurement; and (c) capital access planning and acquisition pathways specific to social enterprises. In addressing these gaps, SEE professional staff contribute to the transition from a coal-based economy by accelerating economic growth in the social sector: enterprises with market-based solutions to pressing social challenges.
